Product range
About 15 years ago ETC PRODUCTS GmbH developed its first product and launched it a short time later on the newly-emerging market of these kinds of nano-coatings: a hydrophobic water-repellent coating, which remains one of the cornerstones of our product range. Through customer-oriented and dynamic development, new products were able to be created and new business sectors were developed. Today, we have an established range of functional coatings:
Non-stick / easy to clean
QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PRODUCTS?
Non-stick coating materials have two essential features: on one hand, they contain components that are highly hydrophobic and oleophobic, while on the other hand, they contain coupling molecules which are ready to pair and which bind chemically to the subsurface. If the liquid sol is applied to a surface the couplers seek out sites to bind to the substrate, while the hydrophobic groups strive for the liquid/air boundary. During the drying process all the components connect with each other and thereby form a mechanically and chemically stable, highly hydrophobic and oleophobic layer. Such layers reduce the adhesive forces between the coated surface and most solids and liquids. Water runs off, while dirt cannot adhere firmly and can therefore be easily removed. This is true of limestone on shower walls as well as for burnt rice in pans.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PRODUCTS?
Sol-gel coatings consist mostly of silica and therefore usually have a lower refractive index than glass. This fact makes them ideal for producing anti-reflective optical coatings. Careful adjustment of the porosity and surface roughness improves the optical properties, while a high degree of cross-linking of the silica network increases mechanical stability. This results in high-quality optical coatings for solar panels, touch panels, display panels, or the like.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PRODUCTS?
Glass is a fascinating material which appears to be highly resistant. Even glass can weather though, depending on its quality. Turbid milky blotches or white spots are evidence of a leaching of the glass and of glass corrosion. In particular glass, that is exposed to extreme conditions, whether in coastal areas or in extremely acidic or alkaline environments, quickly decomposes on the surface. In such cases a suitable coating can offer protection by delaying or even preventing the extraction of individual glass components.

Alkali-stable / dishwasher-safe
QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PRODUCTS?
The pleasure of new cups or fancy glasses often gives way to bitter disappointment: the little “not dishwasher-safe" label was overlooked and after only a few washes, the glass decors are coming off, the porcelain decorations are losing their lustre, and the glasses are turning milky. The culprit is usually the highly alkaline and hot environment during the washing process combined with the aggressive water vapour during the subsequent drying. Only those decors which are baked at very high temperatures are dishwasher-safe. Many glass and ceramic paints do not have this temperature stability, though. If you do not want to go without these paints, you can significantly increase the alkali resistance of decorations and glasses by adding a coating.

Primer
QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PRODUCTS?
Digital printing on glass is steadily gaining in popularity. In order to ensure a firm connection of the ink to the glass, a bonding agent is necessary. The primer MA 5 improves the adhesion of UV-connecting inks on glass.

Cleaner
QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PRODUCTS?
Sol-gel coatings are extremely thin and therefore need a good chemical bonding to the subsurface, if they are to retain a certain stability. Therefore, an extremely clean surface is of paramount importance, particularly for these coatings. This has motivated ETC PRODUCTS to develop two cleaning agents that are ideally suited as a pre-treatment for coatings of glass, ceramics or enamel.
